Please note that this trip is a single overnight residential, not a two-night residential as previously planned.
Our autumn 2015 wildlife trip - the first of the new school year - is an overnight residential to Lancashire, with wildlife watching based on the famous nature reserve of RSPB Leighton Moss. Please follow the link and see the map below for more details.
The reserve is superb this time of year for seeing bird life among the reeds, especially the Bearded Tit (pictured), Black-tailed Godwit and Ruff on the pools, and hopefully a starling murmuration at dusk. Fungi, including Elf-cup, are also a highlight of the autumn; and the reserve is also home to Bittern, Marsh Harrier and other wetland wildlife including water vole.
We will leave school early on Saturday morning, returning at 5pm approximately on Sunday, travelling by minibus. Accommodation will be at Arnside youth hostel, where bedding and a 2-course evening meal is provided.
The total cost (for one night's bed and breakfast, entry to reserves, mileage and parking) will be £90. Breakfast and an evening meal are included with the accommodation, though pupils will need a packed lunch including drink for both lunch on the journey out on Saturday, and for Sunday on the return (the latter can be bought en-route). They may also wish to bring a small amount of cash (less than £20) for snacks and drinks.
For the overnight stay pupils will need:
- sleeping bag
- waterproof coat*
- waterproof trousers*
- good walking boots*/wellington boots
- layered (thermal) clothing including hat and gloves
- a change of clothes for relaxation time in the evenings
- camera equipment and
Places can be booked as usual on the SchoolGateway system. Please note that there is a limit of 6-8 pupils for the trip, and once that limit has been reached the trip will no longer be available on the system - early booking is strongly advised!
As stated above, the trip is only available to pupils in or above the Remove year; and please note that it will take place at the same time as the annual CCF and Leadership residential weekends. And finally...
Pupils and parents should both read the information on the Trips 'About' page (our 'Terms & Conditions') very carefully, especially regarding communication with pupils once a booking has been made: pupils must check their email to receive important updates, especially concerning the date and time of kit issue.
