Our
final trip is in the summer term: two nights in Northumberland,
focussed around a day spent on the Farne Islands on Saturday. The
Farnes are a real sanctuary for wildlife, and are home to huge
breeding colonies of Puffins, Terns, Guillemots and other British sea
birds, as well as being a great place to watch seals from the boat.
We will leave school on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. from reception, returning at 6 p.m. approx. on Sunday, travelling by minibus. Accommodation will be at a bed and breakfast in Belford to enable us to catch an early sailing with Billy Shiels (the sailing will be weather dependent, of course, and should inclement weather prove a problem, we have a reserve plan to visit other wildlife sites and reserves in the North-East). The total cost (two nights bed and breakfast, boat trip and landing fees, mileage and parking) will be £150. Breakfasts are included with the accommodation, though pupils will need a packed lunch including drink for both lunch on the journey north on Friday, and for Saturday on the islands. We plan to have a sit-down/take-away dinner on Friday and Saturday evening, so in addition they should bring a small amount of cash (less than £20) for fish and chips or similar.
For the overnight stays pupils will need toiletries, a sleeping bag (as some rooms may be double rather than twin) and the usual outdoor clothing: waterproof coat, waterproof trousers, good walking boots, wellington boots, layered (thermal) clothing including hat and gloves, and a few changes of clothes for relaxation time in the evenings. The sea crossing is short but it may be wet and cold and we will be out all day; likewise, a thick hat should be worn on the islands to give protection from seabirds defending their nests! If pupils need to borrow waterproof coat/trousers, walking boots or binoculars, they must attend the kit issue (for which we will specify a date and time) in advance of the trip.
On a final note, no school cricketers or athletes will be allowed to take part if they have a fixture that weekend, so it is advised that your son should ensure he is not required for cricket or athletics before applying.

Pupils and parents must both read the information on the Trips 'About' page (our 'Terms & Conditions') very carefully, especially regarding communication with pupils once a booking has been made.
