Photography 101 covers not only the basics of how a camera works, but how to make the camera work for you and the type of image you want to take. It is one of the two compulsory courses if you want to gain accreditation to photograph school events for publications; but it can of course be taken just for interest, and is an excellent course to start with before taking more specialist courses later on.
Bring your camera and learn about the following topics:
Types of camera
From phone cameras, through point-and-shoot and bridge cameras, to mirrorless and DSLRs: learn the different types, and what each is best at.
Lenses
Whether a fixed lens on a point-and-shoot/bridge or a changeable lens on a mirrorless camera or DSLR, know what different lenses do and why some are better (and more expensive) than others.
Focus & Sharpness
Auto-focus (inc. how to move or widen your focus point and focus tracking) and manual focus (and when to use each).
Exposure
The 3 essential camera settings for taking a picture: aperture (the size of the opening in the lens), shutter speed (how fast the picture is taken) and ISO (how senstiive your camera's sensor is to light).
Other camera settings
Drive modes; White Balance; .jpeg and RAW files; the Histogram.
